What is GMP+?

GMP+ (Good Manufacturing Practice Plus) is the world’s leading international standard for Feed Safety Assurance (FSA). It ensures that animal feed is produced, transported, and traded safely throughout the entire supply chain.

Core Purpose: It integrates traditional Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) with HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) and ISO quality management standards specifically for the animal feed sector.

Primary Objective: To guarantee that feed ingredients and end products are free from contamination, ensuring that “safe feed” leads to “safe food” for human consumption.

Applicability: Essential for any company in the feed supply chain—including producers of compound feed, transporters, storage facilities, and traders—who wish to trade internationally, especially with the European market.

Benefits:

License to Sell Globally: GMP+ is often a mandatory requirement for doing business with major international feed companies and for exporting to the European Union.

Total Supply Chain Control: Ensures safety at every stage, from raw material sourcing to transport and final delivery, reducing the risk of contamination (e.g., Salmonella, heavy metals).

Integrated Risk Management: Combines HACCP principles with practical hygiene rules, allowing you to proactively identify and control safety hazards.

Enhance Brand Reputation: Proves to livestock farmers and food processors that your company is a reliable, professional partner committed to animal health.

Legal & Regulatory Compliance: Helps your business meet strict national and international laws regarding feed safety and quality.

The Certification Process

Step 1: Gap Analysis
We evaluate your current feed safety measures against the GMP+ FSA standard. We identify specific gaps in your infrastructure, hygiene practices, or traceability systems.

Step 2: Awareness Training
We train your team on the specific requirements of GMP+. This includes understanding feed safety hazards, personal hygiene, and the importance of chain-of-custody transparency.

Step 3: Document Support
We assist in creating the extensive documentation required, including your HACCP Plan, traceability protocols, recall procedures, and prerequisite programs (PRPs) for cleaning and maintenance.

Step 4: Internal Audit & MRM
We conduct a “mock audit” to test your system’s readiness. Following this, we hold a Management Review Meeting (MRM) to analyze performance and close any non-conformities before the real audit.

Step 5: Final Audit
An approved Certification Body (CB) assesses your organization. They review your documentation and inspect your site to ensure you meet all GMP+ requirements.

Step 6: Success
Upon passing the audit, your organization is awarded the GMP+ Certification, granting you entry into the global feed safety community.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: What is the difference between GMP and GMP+?
A: “GMP” is general hygiene. “GMP+” is specifically for the animal feed industry. It combines GMP hygiene with HACCP risk management to make sure feed is safe.

Q: Is this mandatory?
A: If you want to export feed (especially to Europe) or sell to big multinational feed mills, yes, it is usually a requirement.

Q: Does it cover transport?
A: Yes. GMP+ is a “chain” standard. This means not only the factory but also the trucks and ships transporting the feed must be certified or approved.

Q: How long does the certificate last?
A: The certificate is valid for 3 years, but you will have a check-up audit every year to ensure you are still following the rules.
