What is ISO 22000?

ISO 22000 is the globally recognized standard for Food Safety Management Systems (FSMS). It provides a strategic framework that enables organizations to identify, monitor, and control food safety hazards throughout the entire supply chain.

Core Purpose: It establishes a rigorous governance structure to manage food hygiene and safety protocols effectively.

Primary Objective: To proactively mitigate physical, chemical, and biological risks, ensuring that food products remain safe for consumption from production to the consumer.

Applicability: Essential for any organization within the food supply chain—from primary producers and manufacturers to logistics providers and retailers—seeking to demonstrate regulatory compliance and an unyielding commitment to consumer safety.

Benefits

Build Consumer Confidence: Proves to customers and retailers that your food is safe to eat.

Global Market Access: Opens doors to international markets that require strict food safety standards.

Legal Compliance: Helps you meet local food safety regulations and avoid costly fines or shutdowns.

Reduce Waste: Better control over processes means fewer spoiled products and less food waste.

Supply Chain Trust: Makes you a preferred supplier for large grocery chains and international brands.

The Certification Process

Step 1: Gap Analysis
We visit your facility to review your current food safety practices. We identify exactly what is missing compared to ISO 22000 standards so we know where to start.

Step 2: Awareness Training
We educate your team and management. We explain what ISO 22000 is, why it is important, and how everyone plays a role in keeping food safe.

Step 3: Documentation Support
We help you prepare the necessary paperwork. This includes creating your Food Safety Policy, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and your HACCP (Hazard Analysis) plan.

Step 4: Internal Audit & MRM
Before the real test, we conduct a “practice run” (Internal Audit) to check the system. We also facilitate a Management Review Meeting (MRM) to discuss results and fix any remaining issues.

Step 5: Final Audit
An external certification body audits your company. They review your documentation and inspect your facility to confirm that you meet all ISO 22000 requirements

Step 6: Success!
Upon passing the final audit, your company is officially awarded the ISO 22000 Certification.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Is ISO 22000 the same as HACCP?
Not exactly. HACCP is a part of ISO 22000.While HACCP focuses on risk analysis, ISO 22000 covers the entire management system, including leadership, communication, and continuous improvement.

Q: Does a small café or restaurant need this?
A: While often used by manufacturers, it is highly beneficial for restaurants, catering services, and hotels to prove superior food hygiene and win corporate catering contracts.

Q: How long does the certificate last?
A: The certificate is valid for 3 years, subject to successful annual check-ups (surveillance audits).

Q: Can we integrate this with ISO 9001?
A: Yes! ISO 22000 shares the same structure as ISO 9001 (Quality Management), making it easy to build an “Integrated Management System” that handles both quality and food safety.
